The World Organization for Human Rights (WOHR), the Special Adviser to the United Nations, expresses its deep concern and criticism of the Al-Hilla incident, forcing a citizen to confess to the crime of killing his wife while he did not commit the crime. His dignity is the most severe abuse at the hands of those who are supposed to be the protectors of the rights of the citizen and the proper implementation of the law.
Our organization confirms that this incident will be included in its periodic report to the United Nations, and we call on the Iraqi government to try the violators of human rights and the law in a fair public trial, so that it will be a lesson for all, and for the Iraqi government to put an end to human rights violations and transgression of the law.
Our organization is awaiting a clear official clarification from the Iraqi Prime Minister and the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, of the importance and seriousness of the incident. Ensuring the safety of the accused and ensuring his just right to demand retribution from the perpetrators and compensation for all that has befallen him.
